ESTIMATING SIZES
One of the advantages of hiring a marquee is that you can obtain one of precisely the right size for your needs. But how do you decide?
(Don't worry if this seems a bit complicated! We will help you all along the way, as always, taking as much or as little control of the event as you want) If we take an evening party as an example:
1. Decide the number of guests 2. Decide how you would like the seating plan. For example, you can sit 8 guests around a 5' round table more formally than you could with 10. We recommend that 8 guests sit at 5' tables and that 6' tables are used for 10 guests. 3. Are you dancing? Is there going to be a band or a disco? How much space will they need? 4. How are you arranging the catering? Will you need buffet tables or is it waitress service? How much space does the caterer need?
Let us say that you want to invite 104 guests and to seat 8 of them around a 5' round table. You want adequate dancing space for about 60% of your guests to dance at once and a small stage for the disco. Your caterer is putting cold starters on the tables while you serve drinks in the garden. The main course will be served buffet style and pudding will be served at the table. To save space, the buffet tables are set up on the dance floor and removed at the end of the meal. There should be some extra standing area to give an impression of space when the guests first arrive.
So, a main marquee of 9m x 21m or 12m x 18m would probably be suitable, together with a small tent of about 6m x 6m to house the Caterer.
At this stage we apologise on behalf of the industry. One day we will be fully metric ...... but not yet! |
